An Idyllic Alpine Setting. Nestled in the heart of the Austrian Alps, Schlosshotel Kitzbühel is a refined retreat that invites families of all generations to connect, relax, and enjoy a memorable alpine escape. The hotel, perched on the sunny side of the valley, offers a blend of tranquility, wellness, and culinary delights, all while providing stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
The castle, built just 20 years ago, stands proudly on the slopes of the valley, with the actual historic castle just below. Its modern construction, continually renovated, provides the highest standard of facilities, a feat that would have been difficult to achieve in a historical building.

The architectural design is meticulously thought out, with the traditional roofing made of overlapping wooden shingles being particularly striking – the craftsmanship required to produce and fit so many individual pieces of wood is truly awe-inspiring.
Warm Welcome and Family Focus
Upon arrival, we are welcomed in the most thoughtful way, setting the tone for a pleasant getaway. As we check in, the children are invited to choose their favorite candy from a treasure chest, while we are offered a glass of crisp sparkling wine and a rare, beautiful rose. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it clear that this is a place to reconnect, and unwind.
Spa and Wellness – The Heart of the Hotel
The spa at Schlosshotel Kitzbühel is thoughtfully designed and offers an impressive range of facilities. The spacious facility features multiple saunas and treatment rooms, each incorporating elements of Tyrolean tradition.

The use of the healing natural stone pine wood, known locally as Zirbenholz, and intricate handmade wood carvings creates a calming, authentic atmosphere that connects you to the region’s rich heritage. Panoramic windows provide calming views of the mountains while you relax in or outside the saunas. The combination of modern wellness treatments with local traditions makes the spa an essential part of the hotel’s charm.

The massage treatment was both professional and deeply relaxing. While not groundbreaking in terms of technique, it was carried out with evident skill and attention to detail, and the therapist took time to understand individual preferences and adjusted the pressure accordingly, which contributed to a tailored and enjoyable experience.
The heart of the hotel is found on the third floor, where guests access the expansive spa and pool facilities. This level also houses the welcoming bar, a perfect spot to enjoy a tasty lunch on the terrace or unwind with drinks in the evening accompanied by live music. This layout contrasts with most other hotels where the reception area typically occupies the central position — here, the emphasis is clearly on wellness and socializing in a relaxed atmosphere.
Fitness and Active Relaxation
For those seeking more active relaxation, the hotel’s state-of-the-art gym offers a wide variety of fitness options, including group classes for all levels. Whether you’re indulging in a massage or participating in a yoga session, the emphasis is on holistic well-being – making it an ideal retreat for those looking to relax and rejuvenate together.
Pool and Outdoor Relaxation
The pool area, a highlight of the spa, extends into the outdoors through expansive glass windows, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor spaces. While much of the pool is housed inside, the outdoor section offers plenty of sun loungers and cabanas set on lush, well-kept lawns, making it a great place to relax and soak up the natural surroundings. Being the property’s only pool it is however not always the typical serene spa experience when you visit but from time to time frequented by families with children playing and cheering.

For families, the hotel offers a kids’ club where little ones can engage in a variety of activities. In addition, the hotel boasts a cinema that screens family films in the evenings, making it an ideal option for a relaxing night for both parents and children after dinner. During school holidays, the hotel organizes family weeks filled with exciting activities such as horse-drawn carriage rides into the village, traditional Kaiserschmarren workshops with the hotel’s chefs, and family-friendly guided hikes, ensuring that every generation has something special to enjoy.
Breakfast with a View
The breakfast experience at Schlosshotel Kitzbühel is as expected a delight. The beautiful terrace, with its panoramic views of the mountains, provides a serene backdrop, making it the perfect setting to begin the day.

While the breakfast spread is excellent, we did miss the inclusion of fresh berries, which would have been a perfect touch to the otherwise impeccable selection.
Culinary Diversity – Three Distinct Restaurants
As we explore the culinary offerings, it’s clear that Schlosshotel Kitzbühel takes dining seriously. The hotel features three distinct restaurants: Rozu, which specializes in sushi; Das Kap, offering a tantalizing grill menu; and Streif, the main restaurant.
Streif is a standout with its impressive buffet where chefs prepare meals right before your eyes. The atmosphere is perfect for families who want to enjoy exceptional food in a relaxed setting. On a warm evening, we sit on the beautiful terrace, savoring the fresh mountain air and the melody of birds singing in the trees.

At Rozu, we are treated to an unexpected yet refreshing contrast — authentic Japanese sushi in the heart of the Austrian Alps. The atmosphere is yet again relaxed, with live music in the background enhancing the feel of the evening.

The classic sushi dishes are expertly crafted and full of flavor, while the local interpretations using regional fish varieties adds an exciting twist. The sashimi stands out for its purity and texture, and the desserts are equally impressive. On this particular evening, we opt for non-alcoholic beverages, and the bar delivers with well-balanced, flavorful mocktails that complement the meal beautifully.

Dinner at Das Kaps, set amidst the serene greenery of the golf course, stood out as the culinary highlight of our stay. The setting strikes a balance between relaxed charm and quiet elegance, but it’s in the kitchen that the restaurant truly excels. The meat we were served was of very high quality — well grilled, full of flavor, and notably tender, reflecting clear attention to sourcing and preparation.
The side dishes were generous and well considered, offering a variety of textures and flavors that complemented the main courses without overwhelming them. Service was both attentive and personal, delivered with a natural warmth and professionalism that added to the overall experience. The drinks — both alcoholic and non-alcoholic — were well mixed and thoughtfully matched to the meal.

Before dinner, the children were invited to take a tour of the bar, where the staff demonstrated the art of mixing drinks. The children were then able to participate by adding their own touches to the specially crafted drink, engaging in the process with great enthusiasm.
In all, Das Kaps delivered a thoroughly satisfying dining experience where everything came together: food, setting, service, and even a little extra fun for the younger guests. A place well worth revisiting, and a reminder that Alpine dining can indeed reach impressive heights.
The Adler Suite – Luxury and Elegance
The Adler Suite is the epitome of modern luxury and comfort. Situated at the top of the hotel, it boasts its own private elevator. Upon arrival, we received a thoughtful welcome letter along with a bottle of well-chilled champagne and fine chocolates. The children were also given chocolates and a bowl of fresh fruit, setting a warm, generous and inviting tone from the very start.

The spacious terrace is in the perfect sun position, offering views of the surrounding mountains—including the world famous Hannenkam—making it equally a prime spot for sun-soaked relaxation or a drink before dinner. The suite itself is beautifully designed, blending modern elegance with historic touches, like wood accents that reflect Tyrolean craftsmanship.
The two bedrooms are comfortable and thoughtfully appointed, with the master suite featuring a freestanding bathtub next to the bed. Two of the highlights are the glass-walled sauna with a panoramic view and the integrated ”mini bar” — a full-size glass-framed wine cooler housing about 50 bottles of fine selected wines, including several champagnes.

The more traditional minibar is less eye-catching but complementary and replenished daily, a nice and hospitable touch. The fireplace is modernly integrated in front of the sofa and although not used during our summer visit, yet another feature among many that makes the suite extraordinary besides the sheer amount of square meters.

One particular favorite for all of us was the rocking chair, elegantly suspended in front of the large sliding windows opening to the balcony. It quickly became a beloved spot to unwind, offering a perfect view of the mountains while peacefully swaying.
Standard Rooms – Comfort and Functionality
The standard rooms are spacious and nicely appointed with a clean design that balances comfort and functionality. They come equipped with all the amenities expected at a hotel of this caliber: high-quality bedding, well-designed workspaces, and modern bathrooms with premium fixtures. Natural light fills the rooms through large windows, often offering serene views of the surrounding alpine landscape.

Thoughtful details like blackout curtains, soundproofing, and efficient climate control ensure a restful stay. The rooms cater well to couples and small families alike, providing a quiet retreat after a day of outdoor activities or socializing in the hotel’s communal spaces. Overall, these rooms maintain the hotel’s high standards, offering guests a reliable and comfortable base for their stay.
Location and Accessibility
Speaking to Schlosshotel Kitzbühel’s favour is also its location. The hotel sits, as mentioned before, on the sunny side of the valley in a quiet, elevated spot, providing both peace and spectacular views.

Despite the tranquility, the charming and iconic village center of Kitzbühel is just a 10–15-minute walk away, allowing us to enjoy the best of both worlds – serenity and accessibility. Several hiking trails are easily accessible from the hotel, and the staff is graciously willing to assist in choosing the most suitable routes at any given time.
Conclusion – A Perfect Multi-Generational Retreat
For families looking for a luxurious yet approachable escape where generations can bond, rejuvenate, and savor world-class food, Schlosshotel Kitzbühel offers a perfect blend of wellness, nature, and exceptional culinary experiences. The hotel’s design and atmosphere encourage relaxation and shared experiences, making it well suited for families and multi-generational travel. It is telling that 9 out of 10 guests choose to return, a very high figure even within the premium segment of the hospitality industry — a clear testament to the hotel’s consistent quality and appeal.
