Hotel Post Lech – A Journey to the Heart of the Alps

Nestled in the picturesque alpine village of Lech, the Hotel Post is a place where tradition and quality blend seamlessly. Since the 1930s, this elegant hotel has been a gathering spot for seasoned skiers and travelers seeking a place to relax, recharge, and experience the finest of Austrian alpine culture.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Post, it was clear that this would be a stay to remember. The check-in process was remarkably smooth – actually the most effortless we have encountered. There were no long forms to fill out, no passport checks and no tedious paperwork. Instead, we were warmly greeted with a friendly smile and all that was required was a simple key handover. The process felt refreshingly uncomplicated – a welcome change from the usual formalities of hotel check-ins. This seamless welcome set the tone for what would become a stay marked by relaxation, exceptional service, and thoughtful attention to detail.

After being escorted to our room, we were delighted to find a personalized welcome waiting for us: a carefully selected assortment of chocolates, fresh fruit, and an array of beverages, thoughtfully presented to help us unwind. The welcome note that accompanied these treats added a personal touch, making us feel valued and well cared for from the moment we arrived.

A Storied History – The Legacy of Hotel Post

Hotel Post boasts a rich and storied history that spans over almost a century, making it one of Lech’s most iconic and admired establishments. In the 1930s, the property was acquired by the grandmother of current hotelier Florian Moosbrugger—a bold and visionary woman who defied convention with her decision. At the time, Lech was little more than a remote alpine village, largely unknown and inaccessible. The family’s hospitality legacy was already well established in the neighboring valley of Zürz, where they operated several successful hotels. Investing in Lech, with its harsh winters and limited infrastructure, seemed illogical to many.

But she saw potential where others saw only snow and isolation. Her decision to purchase and develop Hotel Post was not only unconventional—it was met with skepticism and even disapproval from peers and relatives. Why would anyone choose Lech over the already flourishing tourist destinations nearby?

Yet her vision paid off. With time, Lech evolved into one of Austria’s most exclusive ski resorts, attracting royalty, celebrities, and discerning travelers from around the world. Hotel Post, at the heart of this transformation, became a symbol of elegance and Alpine tradition. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several renovations, each thoughtfully designed to preserve its historic character while seamlessly incorporating modern comforts—a living tribute to the bold vision that started it all.

Its reputation is built on a consistent commitment to quality, tradition, and personalized service. The hotel has become a symbol of luxury and Alpine elegance, known for offering guests a distinguished experience from the moment they arrive.

The Moosbrugger family, who has owned the hotel for generations, is not only the cornerstone of its legacy but also remains actively involved in the hotel’s day-to-day operations. Their personal involvement ensures a level of service that feels intimate, and their passion for hospitality is evident in every detail.

The hotel seamlessly combines its classic Alpine architecture with contemporary comforts, creating a harmonious atmosphere that appeals to both seasoned travelers and newcomers alike. Whether it’s the exceptional dining experiences, the luxurious spa, or the intimate, personalized service, every element of the hotel is crafted with care to deliver an experience that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Unique Rooms – A Sanctuary of Tradition and Comfort

At Hotel Post, no room is quite like the other – each one has its own charm and distinct characteristics. The newly renovated rooms combine the rare ability to preserve their original charm, while the older rooms maintain a timeless comfort and are well-kept despite their age. Whether you choose a cozy standard room or a spacious suite, you are sure to experience a sense of comfort that feels both personal and unique.

For our stay, we were fortunate enough to enjoy the expansive luxury of a large suite spanning approximately 100 m² altogether. This space truly felt like a home away from home, with exquisite details throughout. It featured three bathrooms, ensuring that no matter the time of day, everyone had the space and privacy they needed. The suite also included a steam bath and a charming fireplace that added a touch of coziness and warmth to the space, although perhaps more appreciated during winter than in July. It was an ideal setting to relax, enjoy the magnificent surroundings, and revel in the hotel’s signature blend of tradition and modernity.

The housekeeping staff does an outstanding job, ensuring that each space is immaculate. Their attention to detail is remarkable, and they are also incredibly attentive, almost magically knowing exactly when the room is ready to be cleaned without ever interrupting your stay. The turn-down service, in particular, stands out as one of the best we’ve experienced. It goes beyond the typical, almost resembling a full cleaning of the room, with every detail carefully tended to. This commitment to excellence is evident throughout the hotel, where service is consistently delivered with the utmost care and attention.

Dining at Panorama – A Culinary Journey

Each evening, dinner was enjoyed at the hotel’s renowned restaurant, Panorama, where we were treated to a delightful five-course menu. Every dish was a celebration of flavor, showcasing local ingredients and expert culinary techniques. The wine list was extensive, offering a diverse selection from around the world, but it was the sommelier who truly enhanced our experience. With his expert guidance, we quickly found a favorite wine that we returned to several times during our stay – a sparkling rosé crafted by the family’s own brother. It was the perfect pairing to our meals, and the sommelier’s personal touch added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. The drinks orded at the bar were well blended and the drink list extensive – actually to the extent that some dinners were had not with wine but cocktails throughout.

Service in the Panorama restaurant was exceptional – attentive and personalized, making every dining experience feel special. Whether it was a recommendation for the perfect wine pairing or a thoughtful gesture to enhance the evening, the team at Panorama went above and beyond to ensure that we had a memorable dining experience.

Breakfast at Panorama – A Tranquil Start to the Day

Breakfast was also served in the Panorama restaurant, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our stay. The atmosphere in the morning was refreshingly calm – a peaceful contrast to the busier moments of the day. The linen tablecloths, now adorned with embroidered monograms, felt even more inviting, and the sunlight streamed into the room, casting a warm glow. We truly felt at home in this cozy, welcoming space and we soon made sure breakfasts were no quick business.

In addition to the beautifully arranged buffet, there was a thoughtfully curated menu offering a variety of tempting dishes beyond the classic breakfast staples. From freshly baked pastries to delightful egg dishes and tartar, we savored nearly every option and found ourselves discovering new favorites each morning. The quiet elegance of the room, combined with the attentive service, made breakfast a serene and enjoyable experience, perfectly setting the tone for a day of exploration in the Alps.

Afternoon Tea – A Perfect Pause

In keeping with the hotel’s culinary excellence, we also enjoyed afternoon tea during our stay. Served in the elegant Hubertus room, which exudes traditional charm and character, the experience was thoroughly enjoyable. However, when the weather allowed, we preferred the terrace just outside the hotel. With its views and refreshing air, it provided an ideal setting for a relaxing tea break.

As expected, the service was impeccable, as it had been at breakfast and dinner. One particularly charming touch was the inclusion of small hourglasses alongside the tea service, allowing us to time the perfect brew. This playful addition made the experience feel even more enjoyable and added a bit of fun to our tea time.

The Spa, Pool, and Garden – A Sanctuary for the Senses

Hotel Post’s spa area offers a tranquil retreat where relaxation and rejuvenation are at the forefront. The atmosphere here is one of calm, with carefully chosen materials and soft lighting creating a soothing environment. The spa features a diverse selection of treatments, blending modern therapies with traditional alpine techniques. Whether you’re enjoying a rejuvenating facial or opting for a full-body massage, the expert therapists cater to your needs, ensuring you leave feeling refreshed and relaxed.

One of the most unique experiences we had was the Body Wrap in Floating Lounger. While it’s difficult to fully capture in words, this treatment is highly recommended. The sensation of being enveloped by the body wrap while gently floating is unlike any other spa treatment. It’s an experience that provides deep relaxation, but also a feeling of weightlessness and calm that can’t be truly appreciated until you experience it for yourself.

The spa also works with several high-quality brands, with Cellcosmet being the flagship product. Known for its luxurious and effective formulations, Cellcosmet enhances the spa’s offerings, ensuring that guests receive top-tier treatments that deliver real results.

The biggest highlight of the spa is the impressive pool, which seamlessly transitions from an indoor one into a large, heated outdoor pool. This expansive pool offers guests the unique opportunity to swim indoors or outdoors, regardless of the season. The outdoor section provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains, adding an extra layer of tranquility to the experience. Whether you choose to take a dip under the winter snow or enjoy a sunlit swim in the summer, the heated water ensures comfort throughout the year.

For families, there’s an additional treat: a generously sized indoor children’s pool complete with water slides and playful fountains. This area is designed with young guests in mind, offering a safe and enjoyable space for them to splash around and have fun. The water slide adds an element of excitement, while the gentle fountains keep the children entertained for hours. It’s a perfect space for families to relax together, knowing the little ones are having just as much fun as the adults.

Besides the above there is also a small but well appointed gym overlooking the pool and relaxation room on one side and the village of lech with the mountains in the background on the other side. Although holding high standards one shouldn’t expect to do heavy lifting here.

The garden surrounding the hotel is equally expansive in both size and beauty. This lush, well-kept space provides a peaceful oasis, offering guests quiet corners to retreat to. In the warmer months, the garden comes alive with vibrant flowers and greenery, creating a perfect setting for a leisurely stroll or simply sitting back with a book. It’s an ideal place to reflect, recharge, and enjoy the natural beauty of Lech in complete peace.

A Personalized Experience – Expert Local Knowledge

Another highlight of our stay at Hotel Post was the outstanding service provided by the reception team, who demonstrated an extensive knowledge of Lech and its many offerings. Upon our first inquiry, they not only provided us with a tailored list of activities to suit our interests but, within just 10 minutes, had already made all the necessary bookings for us. In our case, this included a thrilling canyoning adventure and a unique archery session—both arranged through the hotel’s trusted partner – Arlberg Alpin.

The archery experience was a fantastic family activity, consisting of a scenic hike through a variety of landscapes—lush forests with rushing streams, and undulating grass-covered meadows. Along the way, we kept an eye out for targets to shoot with our provided bows. The children were thrilled, and the excitement grew as they first spotted the targets and then took their shots. The entire excursion lasted about two hours, but it could have easily been extended, as the pace is flexible and suited to all levels, from beginners to more experienced adventurers.

On the other hand, the canyoning adventure was an exhilarating experience from start to finish. After a quick gear fitting at the Arlberg Alpin office—just across the street from the hotel—we were driven just 10 minutes to Zug. From there, we embarked on a 20-minute, sweat-inducing hike in our wetsuits. Once we reached the starting point, the true thrill began as we plunged into the freezing waters of the rushing river. The adventure involved rappelling down 20 m waterfalls, jumping from rock ledges, and navigating through the intense flow of the stream. About 1.5 hours later, we emerged from the canyon, freezing but exhilarated. It was an adrenaline rush made even more enjoyable by the beautiful natural surroundings and the professional guidance provided by the Arlberg Alpin team.

Whether it was reserving a spot for these thrilling activities or organizing other memorable experiences, the reception team ensured that every detail was taken care of. Thanks to their quick and efficient service, we felt fully prepared for each adventure, with all the arrangements in place before we even set out. Their expertise and commitment to creating a seamless experience stood out throughout our stay. It was clear that they were not only well-versed in the local attractions but also genuinely cared about making our visit as enjoyable and effortless as possible.

An Atmosphere of Care and Quality

Hotel Post is not just a hotel; it’s a place where every guest feels at home. Every corner of the property reflects a sense of care – from the personalized welcome at check-in to the thoughtful touches that make all the difference. There is a genuine commitment to offering every guest an experience that goes beyond the ordinary. Service and quality are not just words; they are the foundation of everything that makes Hotel Post such a cherished destination.

Final Thoughts

For those seeking a hotel where quality is always prioritized, where tradition is celebrated, and where every detail matters, Hotel Post in Lech is a destination not to be missed. It’s an oasis in the Alps where every guest can connect with a rich history while enjoying the modern comforts that make every stay memorable.
