Relaxation and Timeless Luxury at Hotel Tennerhof in Kitzbühel

After thrilling adventures in St. Anton am Arlberg, it’s time to unwind in the serene elegance of Hotel Tennerhof in Kitzbühel. This historic hotel, with its deep-rooted Tyrolean charm, offers the perfect blend of luxury, family-friendly amenities, and an ideal setting for both relaxation and inspiration.

Hotel Tennerhof, the only family-owned five-star hotel open during the summer season in Kitzbühel, is a testament to Austria’s rich heritage and dedication to luxury. Run by the von Pasquali family for four generations, this Relais & Châteaux property is more than just a place to stay—it’s a journey back in time. The main building, a quintessential Tyrolean farmhouse, dates back to 1416, and every corner of the hotel is imbued with the history and tradition of the region.

A Historic Haven in Kitzbühel: Where Tradition Meets Modern Luxury

From the moment you arrive, the hotel’s commitment to personalized service is evident. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the hotel director, Patricia, who offered us a warm welcome and a refreshing drink before we were escorted to our room.

The family suite is a blend of traditional Tyrolean craftsmanship and modern comfort, with creaking wooden floors, unique handcrafted furnishings, and balconies that open up to the fresh alpine air, accompanied by the soothing sounds of cowbells and a nearby babbling brook.

An Exclusive and Unique Stay

Hotel Tennerhof offers only 39 rooms, each uniquely designed to reflect the hotel’s rich history and charm. A standout is the room where James Bonds creator Ian Fleming stayed during his frequent visits to the hotel – it is obvious lot of inspiration was borned here.

In addition to the main building, there are six luxury chalets available about 100 metres away from the main building. While these new accommodations may lack the historical charm of the original structure, they offer a contemporary and spacious living option. All chalets have several bedrooms (2-3), a private spa and a kitchenette—perfect for families looking for a comfortable, private space during their ski vacation, with the added benefit of top-tier service.

Immersed in Nature and Wellness

Most of our days are spent lounging by the hotel’s beautiful pool, nestled within the expansive gardens. The pool bar provides light snacks and beverages, or we can head up to the terrace for a more substantial meal. The peaceful environment and slow pace allow us to truly unwind, while short walks around the hotel’s idyllic surroundings offer a perfect opportunity to explore. Whether wandering through the rural neighborhood or taking a 10-minute stroll into town, the hotel’s location provides both tranquility and easy access to Kitzbühel’s attractions.

The hotel’s spa is surprisingly large, with a range of facilities that cater to serious relaxation. Although we enjoy it now in the summer, we can’t help but imagine how it must shine during the winter, offering a cozy retreat after a day on the slopes, with views of snow-covered mountains from the relaxation room. Even in the off-season, the calm and quiet atmosphere makes it an ideal place to recharge.

Culinary Excellence: A Feast for the Senses

Dining at Hotel Tennerhof is an experience in itself. The first evening’s à la carte dinner on the terrace offers a perfect introduction to the Tyrolean cuisine, with an international twist. The menu, featuring locally sourced ingredients, is sophisticated yet approachable, with a particular emphasis on high-quality meats. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Hahnenkamm, famous for its annual ski race, each meal is a sensory delight.

Breakfast is another highlight, offering a rich selection of fresh, local products. Enjoying your morning coffee amidst the tranquil surroundings is a luxury that sets the tone for a relaxed day ahead. For families, the adjacent pool provides a perfect setting for the kids to play while parents indulge in a leisurely breakfast.

A Place to Recharge and Reflect

Evenings at Hotel Tennerhof are an invitation to relax and reflect. Before dinner, enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the charming bar near the reception, where you can mingle with other guests—many of whom return year after year. The intimate atmosphere makes it easy to strike up conversations and share experiences, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned guest.

On the second evening we choose to dine in the rustic restaurant in the Apartments Landsitz Römerhof, where traditional Tyrolean fondue is the star of the show. The portions are generous, and the flavors are rich, providing a satisfying end to a day of relaxation.

A Luxurious Getaway with Lasting Impressions

After two nights at Hotel Tennerhof, you’ll find it hard to leave the charm of this unique hotel. As you pack your bags and bid farewell, you’ll likely find yourself already planning your return—perhaps for a winter visit next time, to experience the magic of the Tyrolean Alps in the snow.
